Work Experience

Andrea Perronace is a Partner at Jacobacci & Partners, European Patent Attorney, Italian and San Marino Patent Attorney, and EUIPO Registered Design Attorney. He graduated in Computational Physics from Sapienza University of Rome and obtained a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Université Paris-Sud in Paris.

He works between the Rome and Paris offices and has over twenty-five years of experience in intellectual property, including more than 16 years at another leading Italian IP firm before joining Jacobacci & Partners.

Andrea served as an external expert for the European Commission in the field of anti-counterfeiting and is accredited as Court-Appointed Technical Expert before the Specialized Business Court of Rome. He is a member of the European Patent Practice Committee and Litigation Committee (epi).

He represents and advises research institutions, innovative startups, technology companies and multinational corporations in the protection, enforcement and strategic management of intellectual property rights at Italian, European and international level.

Professional Activities

Andrea’s practice includes drafting, filing and prosecuting Italian, European and international patent applications, as well as handling opposition proceedings and oral proceedings before the European Patent Office (EPO), where he has developed significant experience.

He advises clients on patent protection strategies for complex technologies, with particular focus on computer-implemented inventions (CII), software patents, artificial intelligence, Internet-related technologies, and issues relating to inventive step and technical effect before the EPO.

He regularly delivers seminars and publishes articles on software patentability, AI-related inventions and emerging digital technologies.

Andrea also has substantial experience in worldwide design protection, classified defence-related inventions, and patent litigation matters, including disputes involving copyright, trade secrets and unfair competition.

Andrea has particular expertise in the fields of computer-implemented inventions, software patents and artificial intelligence, including machine learning applications, data processing and advanced digital technologies.

    • electronic security, surveillance and anti-intrusion systems;
    • cybersecurity and Internet-related technologies;
    • defence and aerospace technologies;

    • mechanical inventions;
    • industrial designs and design protection.

He also advises on freedom-to-operate analyses, trade secret and know-how protection, IP strategies for startups and technology companies, and international patent portfolio management.
